Why I Built St Lucia Unplugged

A personal journey from burnout to belonging.
Hi, I'm Josh. Your Host. Growing up in St Lucia, the rhythm of nature shaped everything I knew - the calls of hornbills, the stillness of early mornings, the way the world slowed down when the hippos grazed after sunset.

Then life sped up.

London bought ambition, opportunity, and noise.
I saw people around me - in hospitality, in corporate life, in everyday routines - moving fast, running on empty, and craving something real.

I felt it too.

Every time I returned home to St Lucia, I noticed the same transformation in myself:
breathing deeper, thinking clearer, reconnecting with who I actual was - not who the world expected me to be.

One day it became obvious:
this place wasn't just beautiful... it was healing.

So I decided to build something that brings that feeling to others - a retreat that lets people unplug from everything loud... and return to everything real.

That vision became St Lucia Unplugged.

Why St Lucia?
Because it's one of the few places left where nature still feels untouched.
St Lucia is:
-
Home to Africa's largest estuary
-
Nestled between the Indian Ocean and the iSimangaliso Wetland Park
-
A town where wildlife walks freely and sunsets stop conversations
-
A quiet, heartfelt community far away from the rush of modern life
It's not commercial.
It's not crowded.
It's authentic - and that's what makes it rare.

This retreat isn't built around luxury.
It's built around meaning.

What a Day in St Lucia Looks Like
Each day is designed to help you slow down, reconnect with nature, and experience St Lucia in the most effortless and meaningful way possible. Here's a glimpse of what a typical day on the retreat may look like:

Sunrise Ease-In
Wake up to the sounds of the estuary and the smell of fresh coastal air. Enjoy a slow morning with coffee or tea on the deck as the sun rises over the wetlands. No rush - just space to breathe.

Morning Adventure
After a relaxed breakfast, the day opens into your first experience: a hippo and crocodile boat cruise, a trip to meet Rambo and Rachel the elephants, a horse ride along the beach, or a day at the beach snorkeling in crystal-clear waters. Experiences rotate depending on the itinerary format (Weather dependant), but every morning brings something unforgettable.

Midday Reset
Return to your accommodation for downtime. Swim, nap, enjoy lunch in town, or simply rest. During this free time, I'll always be on hand - whether you want suggestions for where to eat, someone to show you around, drive you down to the beach, company for a meal, or help organising any extra activities.

Afternoon Discovery
Your second activity begins later in the day: a safari with local guides, a game drive in the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, a quiet walk to some hidden gems like bats cave or Perrier's rocks all with photography. Each experience is curated to help you connect with the land, the people, and the wildlife.

Golden Hour
As the sun sets, evenings slow down. Share stories, enjoy a drink, watch the sky turn gold, or take a peaceful walk along the shoreline. This is the heart of the retreat - unwinding, reconnecting, and letting the world feel far away.

Relaxed Evenings
Dinner is flexible - explore the local restaurants or enjoy your own quiet evening. You end the night with space, silence, and a deep sense of calm.
